Falls Are a Common Cause of Workplace Injuries;
Internal Campaign Focused on Raising Awareness
WARSAW, IN – (March 13, 2013) – Many workplace injuries are the result of slips and falls. A prevention campaign by DePuy Synthes Joint Reconstruction reduced such incidents by 30 percent at its Warsaw facility, earning a Governor’s Workplace Safety Award.
The awards were presented to eight organizations on March 13 in Indianapolis to recognize Indiana companies that excel in reducing workplace injuries and illnesses.
“DePuy Synthes Joint Reconstruction has shown a tremendous commitment to the safety and health of its employees and the community,” said Sean M. Keefer, Indiana Commissioner of Labor. “Through forward thinking and responsiveness, your company has created an efficient, progressive answer to workplace safety and health issues.” DePuy Synthes Joint Reconstruction was chosen for this award based on its commitment to the health and safety of its approximately 1,200 employees; exceptional safety performance; and for the company’s 2012 Slip, Trip and Fall awareness campaign.
“Employees throughout the company are actively using what they learned from this campaign to reduce accidents,” said Andrew Ekdahl, Worldwide President, DePuy Synthes Joint Reconstruction. “We are proud to receive the Governor’s Workplace Safety Award, which recognizes our commitment to reducing workplace injuries.” In 2012, the Warsaw facility reduced the total reported slip, trip and fall incidents where an injury occurred by 30 percent. “We are confident that these targeted internal communications have helped reduce the occurrence rate of incidents and we hope to build upon and enhance our outreach moving forward,” said Craig Evans, Team Leader, Environmental, Health & Safety.
“We hope to make DePuy Synthes Joint Reconstruction an even safer place to work by pointing out the most likely causes and hazards to help avoid injuries,” Evans said.
The 2012 efforts, which are ongoing, included a stair-safety awareness campaign, flashing winter signs and parking lot enhancements.
The awards are a result of a partnership among the Indiana Department of Labor, on behalf of Governor Mike Pence, the Indiana Chamber of Commerce and the Central Indiana Chapter of the American Society of Safety Engineers.
