NEW NATIONAL SURVEY REVEALS THE SURPRISING OVERALL LIFE IMPACT OF JOINT PAIN – IT’S MORE THAN PHYSICAL

While many people realize joint pain that results from osteoarthritis (OA) affects physical health, a recent online survey conducted by Harris Poll on behalf of DePuy Synthes Companies found that joint pain also significantly impacts other aspects of health – how positive people feel and how focused and engaged they are in their lives and in the lives of others. The good news is that severe OA is treatable. In fact, 90 percent of survey respondents who have had knee and/or hip joint replacement agreed that their lives changed for the better after joint replacement surgery.

NATIONAL SURVEY HIGHLIGHTS BURDEN OF KNEE OSTEOARTHRITIS IN THE US DESPITE AVAILABILITY OF EFFECTIVE THERAPIES

WARSAW, IN (October 30, 2014) – Findings from a new U.S. survey of 878 U.S. adults ages 45-75 with osteoarthritis (OA) of the knee who have not had joint replacement surgery show that 95 percent of respondents avoid or make accommodations to common daily activities because of their knee pain, despite the availability of treatment options like physical therapy, hyaluronic acid injections and knee replacement. The survey also found that 90 percent of those who have had knee joint replacement said their lives have changed for the better following their joint replacement surgery.

DEPUY SYNTHES PROPRIETARY VARIABLE ANGLE LOCKING TECHNOLOGY NOW AVAILABLE TO TREAT CALCANEAL FRACTURES AND MEDIAL COLUMN FUSION PROCEDURES

WEST CHESTER, PA – Sept. 19, 2014 – Today DePuy Synthes Companies of Johnson & Johnson launched two new variable angle plating systems featuring its proprietary variable angle locking technology. With this technology, surgeons can adapt screw trajectory to match patient anatomy and fracture pattern and angulate screws towards specific fragments of bone. The systems are being introduced in conjunction with the American Orthopaedic Foot & Ankle Society (AOFAS) and the International Federation of Foot & Ankle Societies (IFFAS/AOFAS Meeting) in Chicago.
